AT YOUR BIRTH LOCATION

The thought of Birth Photography excites some, and not others. I want everyone to be excited about Birth Photography! Birth Photography is a way to remember one of the most important and special days of your entire life; your baby’s birth day. Hiring a birth photographer frees up your partner and support people to ensure you get those memorable moments captured. Let your partner be as engaged as you throughout the process, and allow me to worry about capturing the moment for you both. This can also get your partner in the photos, which can’t happen if they’re behind the lens. My job is to capture your labour and child’s birth quietly and unobtrusively. I arrive during active labour (6cm or so), and stay for up to one hour afterwards. I only take 1 or 2 births per month to ensure that I am able to arrive promptly. 

Labour can be quite unpredictable. The lighting is dim, and there are many different scenarios that can occur. These will not be portrait-style photos, but more candid and realistic documenting.  The number of images you will receive depends on the length of your labour. 

WHY WOULD I HIRE A BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHER?

If there is one thing I learned, even by myself through experience, its that labour can often feel like a blur. Even shortly after.  Giving birth is such a defining moment for you as a woman, and together as parents. Let me capture your strength and beauty, on one of the most important days of your entire life. 

Labour can be long and hard. There may be details that you miss or forget that I am able to capture.  Many people don't realize the value of being able to save these moments to look back on, until they've reached the time they want to remember.  At that point, its all just a memory. Don't just tell your children the story of their birth, show them.

BIRTHS ARE A BEAUTIUL THING.

Remove the stigma, and the old notion of men waiting outside the room with cigars. Birth is natural. Birth is amazing. Birth shows you a strength you never knew you had inside of you. Birth is beautiful.

WHERE MUST I GIVE BIRTH TO HAVE BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY?

Anywhere your heart desires. If you choose to deliver in a hospital, a birthing centre, or right at home - I will be there! Travel charges may apply for outside city limits.

WILL MY PHOTOS BE POSTED ONLINE?

Your photos will be delivered to you via a password protected digital gallery for only you to see.  If you choose the Portfolio Rate, I will use select images to demonstrate my work online. If you choose the Regular Rate, all of your photos remain private and will not be used in any of my public galleries or promotions. 

I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE GRAPHIC & PRIVATE PHOTOS...

Some women will love to have photos of the baby coming out, and some do not. Your comfort is my priority. I will photograph as much or as little as your prefer. We will discuss this further upon booking your session.

WHAT IF I HAVE A C-SECTION?

If you have a planned C-section, please be sure to ask your doctor beforehand if they will allow a photographer along with your support person in the operating room with you. Many doctors do allow this!
If your C-section is not planned, you may still ask to have your birth photographer in the operating room, but it is not guaranteed. In the event of an unplanned/emergency C-section and I am not allowed to go into the operating room, I am more than happy to remain at the hospital to photograph those first few moments in the postpartum room. 

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT PHOTOS OF THE BIRTH, BUT I WANT PICTURES RIGHT AFTER BABY IS BORN?

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK?

Because of the limited amount of births I will take, you are better off booking as soon as possible. Contact me today with your due date to check availability!
